Bolen, a Republican, has served as Executive Director of the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce for the past 11 years and worked on the organizing committee for the 2015 Nordic Skiing World Championships. Bolen, his wife, and children have also managed a resort on Lake Owen for 20 years.

"I've proven my ability to build relationships and to get things done and as your next state senator, I’ll bring this same approach to serving the people of Northwest Wisconsin," Bolen said in a news release.

Bolen is a native of Park Falls who grew up in Winter.

The 25th District seat is currently held by Janet Bewley of Ashland, a Democrat who serves as Assistant Minority Leader. The geograpically large district includes all of Ashland, Bayfield, Barron, Douglas, Iron, Price, and Washburn counties and parts of Burnett, Dunn, Polk, St. Croix, Sawyer, and Vilas counties.

The seat will be up for election in November, with a primary in August if there is more than one candidate from either party.
