The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the closure will continue until Sept. 8, but the area will open temporarily for Labor Day weekend. The project will include enlarging and paving the parking lot, repairing the boat ramp, adding lights on the boat ramp and parking lot, and installing vault toilets.

"It is always difficult to close a facility for use during the summer months, but in this case it is necessary, considering the amount of construction that will occur," said Steve Hennessy, Parks and Trails Division acquisition and development coordinator, in a news release. "In the short term, it will be an inconvenience, but once completed, visitors will enjoy a very nice facility."

Other parts of the park will remain open during the project. People who would like updates on the projec can contact the DNR Information Center at info.dnr@state.mn.us or 888-646-6367 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
