Sheriff Mark Kelsey announced he will resign before the end of his term. The newly-appointed sheriff will serve from Sept. 3 until Kelsey's term ends on Jan. 7, 2019.

Applicants do not have to be current Sawyer County residents, but the governor's office says they will need to outline "what professional and academic experiences qualify them to be sheriff and describe their civic activities and community involvement."

Applications are due Aug. 18 and being accepted through the governor's website. If the online application is not functioning, applicants can send a cover letter and resume to govappointments@wisconsin.gov.

Potential applicants with questions about the appointments process may contact Dan Sievert at (608) 266-1212.
