Fire Damages Virginia Duplex, Displaces Residents

One person was treated for smoke inhalation, and several people are displaced, after a fire in a Virginia duplex unit on Thursday morning.

The fire was reported in the 700 block of 11th Street North at 8:09 a.m. Virginia Fire Chief Allen Lewis says crews were able to contain the flames to a third-floor room.

One person was sent to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Chief Lewis says damage amounts to more than $25,000, and three displaced residents are receiving help from the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire departments from Mountain Iron, Eveleth, and Gilbert also responded to the scene.
