According to the Sheriff's Office, the truck driven by 40-year-old, Vincent Vesel of Ely went through the ice between Stuntz Bay and Ely Island at around 6:30 PM Thursday.

Vesel was driving on the ice and was able to stop and get out of the truck before it broke through. Vesel had been measuring the ice in different locations as he drove. He was not injured in the incident.

Authorities say the ice on the lake varied from 10 inches to 4 inches where his truck broke through. The Minnesota DNR helped with the rescue.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office urges people to keep vehicles off of the ice during this time as the depth of ice varies greatly at different spots on lakes during this time of year.
