It was announced that 24-year-old Shane Nelson of Superior was the winner of the audition.

The Northland Idol auditions are the first step to be able to compete on American Idol.

Contestants put their talents on display in front of a group of local judges with the goal of trying to be the one to win the silver ticket.

Contestants had to be between the ages of 15-28.

Each contestant had a minute and a half to either sing or use an instrument such as a keyboard or a guitar.

The auditions were scored on vocal talent, stage presence, and song choice.

The six people with the highest score then move on to the final round of the Northland Idol auditions where the winner is decided.

Nelson will be moving on to the next round to audition in front of the American Idol producers after winning the silver ticket.

If he is to make it through this next round, he will then make it on to the show.

American Idol will be seen on ABC spring 2018.
