Family Feels Support After Tragic Loss of Pengilly Teenager

The family of the 16-year old girl from Pengilly who was killed in a crash are feeling the support of the community.

Sierra Matthews, a junior at Greenway, died after her car slid into the path of an oncoming Itasca County squad car. This happened on Tuesday morning, on an icy Highway 169 near Marble.

A statement from the family said, "Words are escaping most of us at the moment. We'd want people to know Sierra loved photography, makeup, and technology. She was incredibly family oriented and had a very caring nature, and was beautiful inside and out. Her laugh and bright smile was incredibly contagious and she was a joy to be around. We're incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support from the community in this unimaginably difficult time for us."

School leaders said they had support available for students and staff.
