Duluth Hosts Inaugural 5K-9 Run for the Dogs

DULUTH - The first annual 5K-9 Run for the Dogs was held Saturday at Lester Park Pavilion.

About 130 people ran in the race, which supports K-9 teams from five local law enforcement agencies. All proceeds from the race went to the AMSOIL Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation.  

Robbin Champaigne, Northland Canine Foundation President, says she loves seeing the community come together for the event. 

"My favorite part is just the support from the community and obviously because I'm on the K-9 foundation, I absolutely love the K-9's, the officers, and all that they do for our community," said Champaigne.

Amber Gurske, race director, says she loves seeing runners participate in a 5-K for the first time. 

"If somebody comes up to me and says this is their first time participating in a 5-K, and it was the 5-K that we organized for the foundation, that's huge and that's awesome," said Gurske.   

Runners of all ages were welcome to participate in the event. Gurske says they are hoping this will become an annual event.
