Woman Dies in Gogebic Co. Snowmobile Crash

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Office says a western Wisconsin woman died in a snowmobile crash late Friday morning.

The crash happened on Powerdorn Road, just north of U.S. Highway 2, at about 11:30 a.m. The victim was with a group of people snowmobiling on the unplowed right of way.

The sheriff's office says 51-year-old Michele M. Megard of Hudson, Wis., lost control of her sled and rolled into a ditch. Megard was then struck by another member of her group.

Megard was pronounced dead at the Ironwood hospital.

The sheriff's office says alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. They continue to investigate the crash.
