One person is dead after a motorcyclist fled a traffic stop northwest of Bemidji on Tuesday evening.  According to authorities, 32-year-old Nicole Annette Hahn of Howard Lake was killed when she was thrown from the motorcycle driven by a 34-year-old man from Maplewood.

Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow says a trooper was attempting to stop a motorcycle carrying two people for speeding about 6 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 89 when the driver took off at “extremely high speeds … heavy on extremely.”

The trooper reported the motorcycle made it about 2 miles before it went off the road and crashed, ejecting both riders. Hahn was killed.

The driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither person on the bike was wearing a helmet.

An investigation is ongoing.

Prior to this incident, the State Patrol reported three other fatalities Tuesday on Minnesota roads.
