The celebrations were part of the annual Lake Superior Day.  At Barker's Island Festival Park, there were games, music, and different activities for people to learn more about the lake and the importance of keeping it clean.

"I think we all really love it, but I think it's nice to have a dedicated time to just say this is a really special place and we can acknowledge it and appreciate it," Deanna Erickson, education coordinator for the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve, said.

Celebrations were held all around the lake in Michigan, Ontario, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Lake Superior Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of July, every year sin the 1990s.
