UPDATE: Hibbing Police Investigate Homicide, Victim Identified as Business Owner

HIBBING, Minn. - Authorities say the death of a man Monday was a result of "homicidal violence."

Hibbing police officers responded to the 2400 block of 1st Avenue at 4:39 p.m. Monday. 

They found a man, now identified as 60-year-old Brian Joseph Nelson, dead in the house behind a bottle shop. Eyewitness News has confirmed with other law enforcement officials it was a stabbing. 

Authorities describe Nelson as a long-time Hibbing resident and business owner.

According to a department press release, "Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death found by responding officers, Hibbing investigators were called to the location." 

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is also investigating. 

Hibbing police said they believe it was an isolated incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
