The theme for the 2017-2018 giving campaign is, "What do you fight for?" It is all about helping out those in the community that need it.

The Head of the Lakes United Way will be asking people, "What do you fight for" in the Ashland-Bayfield, greater Duluth, the North Shore and Superior-Douglas County this campaign season.

"When I see people that are in need that are hungry, that do not have a roof over their heads, it affects me very directly," said Matt Hunter, Head of the Lakes United Way President.

Hunter has two young children and says he doesn't want his kids to have to experience not having their basic needs met.

"I want a community that is marked by kindness, where basic needs are things that they don't have to worry about," said Hunter.

The stories of people in need were also shared in a video at the press conference. John was diagnosed with ALS, Krystal has struggled with addiction and job loss, Dakota needed a supportive mentor. All of these people were helped by the Head of the Lakes United Way.
