The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reports it's believed to have started from a wood stove inside the detached garage, but the cause is still under investigation.

Crews responded to the 4300 block of Old Hwy. 33 in Brevator Township around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

"It's going to be some time before we can figure things out," said owner Clint Jaakola.

Jaakola says while the garage is a total loss, there is a silver lining.

"No body got hurt, no body was inside," Jaakola said. "It's all structural damage and stuff like that can be replaced."

Instead of worrying about the material things, he says he's focused on thanking the fire agencies that responded and that mother nature didn't complicate their efforts.

"These guys were here within 15 minutes at the most," Jaakola said. "Great response!"

As for the loud noises heard by neighbors, Cloquet Fire Chief Kevin Schroeder says that's typical for a garage fire.

"Whether that be gasoline, aerosol cans, spray paints, lubricants that kind of stuff, it's not uncommon in a garage fire to hear some popping or explosion type sounds," Chief Schroeder said.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, St. Louis County Emergency Management, East Brevator Fire, West Brevator Fire, Independence Fire, Grand Lake Fire, Solway Fire, Hermantown Fire, Cloquet Area Fire District responded to the blaze.
