CLOQUET - The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa received an $85,000 grant on Tuesday from the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund at the Cloquet Community Center. The grant will be used to fund three projects in the Fond du Lac community that will improve community resources and facilities for recreation and nutrition.
Those projects are to expand a path leading to the Fond du Lac Cloquet Community Center, establish community gardens at the reservation's school and renovate an outdoor ice skating rink.
The Legacy Fund is providing 52 grants to 52 different community projects throughout Minnesota leading up to Super Bowl LII to help improve the health and wellness of young people.
"It's awesome to travel the state and visit as many kids and families in the state as possible," said Dana Nelson, Vice President of Legacy and Community Partnerships at the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee.
Bruce Savage, Fond du Lac Band Vice Chairman, says the grant will also help the community give back to the youth.
"It's always a great honor to be able to work with our youth and to be able to provide for them the best that we can," said Savage.
