Rich Kampsula was driving home from work at the Hibbing Public Utilities, when he noticed flames shooting up from the roof of the house. He called 911, and started pounding on the door.

Firefighters and police responded to the 1900 block of 7th Avenue East around 5am. They were able to get the two adults and two juveniles out.

Kampsula gave his sweatshirt to the girl, who had been shivering. "I was raised to always be helpful. I'm just glad everybody is OK."

One resident was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

There were working smoke alarms, but because the fire was in the attic, they had not gone off.

The home sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage with damage estimates currently at $120,000. There is no indication of foul play and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hibbing Fire Marshal.

Chisholm Fire, Chisholm EMS, Keewatin Fire, Virginia Fire, Hibbing Police Dept, Hibbing public utilities, and Hibbing Public works responded to assist on this call.
