The City of Superior says the traffic restrictions put in place this week on U.S. Highway 2/53 (East 2nd Street) in the East End are due to emergency manhole reconstruction.

Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9th and 18th Avenues East, with northbound traffic moved to the southbound lanes. Entrances to East 2nd Street from avenues in the area are also blocked, and northbound 18th Avenue East is closed for several blocks leading to East 2nd Street.

Drivers attempting to enter East 2nd Street from the neighborhood must either go north to Belknap Street or south to 22nd Avenue East. However, traffic entering the neighborhood can still turn right from southbound East 2nd Street to 18th Avenue East.

The city said lane closures will remain in place throughout the week.
