Duluth Voters Unseat Hanson, Other Council Incumbents Re-Elected

Three of the four Duluth City Council incumbents up for re-election Tuesday will retain their seats, but Howie Hanson is not among them.

In the city's Fourth District, challenger Renee K. Van Nett defeated Hanson on a 52 to 48 margin. 

In the Second District, incumbent Joel Sipress easily defeated challenger Ryan Sistad by a two-to-one margin.

Incumbents Zack Filipovich and Barb Russ retained their at-large seats on the city council.  Filipovich led the pack with 31 percent of the vote, while Russ was closer to challengers Janet Kennedy and Rich Updegrove.  Russ received nearly 24 percent of the vote, while Kennedy received nearly 22 percent and Updegrove received just over 21 percent.
