Clayton, Jackson, McGhie memorial

A dark day in Duluth history is being acknowledged with two special events.
On the evening of June 15th back in 1920, three black men were publicly lynched. The lives and memory of Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson and Issac Mcghie are being recognized with annual remeberence events.
At a graveside memorial held Wednesday night, the Reverend, Dr. Ruby Nancy talked of why these memorials are still so relevant today.
“And so we remember the three of them in that specific incident,” Dr. Nancy said. “But we also want to make sure that we make it ever present that injustice to anyone is injustice to all of us in a way that we should be also focusing our attention on.”
On Thursday, June 15th at noon there will be a formal memorial program in downtown Duluth at the site of the lynchings. The location of the Clayton, Jackson, Mcghie memorial is on east 1st street and 2nd avenue east. It will feature speakers, spoken word and music.
