29th Annual Bayfront Blues Festival Underway

DULUTH - The 29th annual Bayfront Blues Festival kicked off Friday at Bayfront Festival Park.

It is one of the largest annual outdoor music festivals in the midwest with usually around 20,000 people that come to see more than 30 different acts throughout the weekend. 

The gates opened up at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with the musical performances starting at 11:30 a.m. 

Performances end at 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8:15 p.m. on Sunday.

There are a wide variety of performers of various blues styles.  

One of those performers was Alexis P. Suter.

"It's been great playing here today. We've been well received," said Suter.

Suter is based in Brooklyn, New York, but says she wants to come back to Duluth.

"It's great to break ground with a new audience, and I'm happy we came," said Suter.  

Actor and performer Chris Mulkey also performed with Paul Metsa at 7:20 on Friday night at the acoustics stage.

Robert Randolph highlighted the show on Friday.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds are headlining Saturday's show with Lucky Peterson headlining Sunday's show.

There is also a Late Nite Dance Party that will run from 9:45-11:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. 

The Bayfront Blues Festival will last till Sunday.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the gate.
