Superior is going to be home to a new 54-unit apartment complex in the coming months. Named Onyx of Superior, the project is being put up by P&R Properties, near the intersection of Weeks Avenue and N. 14th Street.

On Friday, dodging raindrops, chamber leaders and P&R celebrated with a ceremonial dirt-turning. But work has already begun on the foundation.

"We're pretty excited to be able to build something like this in Superior," said Ryan Nelson, co-owner of P&R. "There's a pretty big need in Superior, for this kind of housing."

Pete Pavlovich, also a co-owner, added, "Our last project went smooth. So hopefully this one will go the same."

He's referring to the Village Apartments, which they built last year on Tower Avenue in the Village of Superior.  It's a 24-unit complex, which filled up quickly.

There will be extra amenities at the Onyx location, including underground parking, a community room, and a workout facility.

This is exciting, according to the Chamber, because Superior doesn't have this kind of housing yet.

"Duluth has some properties like this, and we see this in the Twin Cities, Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison. We're excited to have it in our community," said Taylor Pedersen, President of the Superior-Douglas County Chamber.

P&R is already taking calls about the apartments. There will be 1 and 2BRs available. They plan on opening July 1st, 2018. If you are interested, please call: 218-722-3645.
