The public was invited to come out and learn more about the natural and human history of Lake Superior and the St. Louis River Estuary. There were interactive exhibits, short movies, games, and a children's play area.

Deanna Erickson, Education Coordinator, Lake Superior National Estuarine Research, says the event is a chance for people to learn more about where they're from.

"I hope that people in Superior and visitors to our area and folks from across the bridge have a place that they really feel welcome, where they can really learn about and feel proud about the place that we're from," said Erickson.

The exhibits featured photographs taken by David Bowman, an independent photographer with National Geographic Creative. The floor of the hall was transformed into a giant map of the St. Louis River Estuary, and the walls had large-scale photograph murals of places like Wisconsin Point and Superior Bay.

For the winter season, the Estuarium will be open on Fridays from 2:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
