I used to watch WDIO/WIRT on either channel 10 or channel 13 using an antenna? What do I do now?
If you are using an amplified UHF/VHF antenna and you live in the Twin Ports or in Hibbing and are having trouble tuning in WDIO/WIRT, try turning off the amplified portion of the antenna. If a converter box or television with a built-in digital tuner receives too much signal, “NO SIGNAL” may display, or your picture may break up. If you used to be able to receive a snowy analog signal, you may have to upgrade to an indoor amplified UHF/VHF antenna, an outdoor UHF/VHF antenna, or an amplified outdoor UHF/VHF antenna to receive WDIO/WIRT clearly. Like in the analog days, your UHF/VHF antenna (especially “rabbit ears”) may require periodic adjustments in order to continue receiving a good signal from WDIO/WIRT.
I live in Northern Minnesota and used to watch WDIO/WIRT over-the-air on a translator station. What do I do now? Northern Minnesota viewers of WDIO/WIRT who used to watch us on analog channels 49, 55, 58, 64, 60, or 65 can still view us via DIGITAL translator stations. If you live near Big Falls, Birchdale, International Falls, Kabetogama, Max, or Northome, you will require a digital converter box or a television with a built-in digital tuner and a UHF/VHF antenna to receive WDIO/WIRT over the air. WDIO/WIRT will now be displayed as channels 13.1 and 13.2 on your converter box or digital television. Grand Marais and Grand Portage viewers of WDIO/WIRT who used to watch us on analog channels 61 and 55 will no longer be able to view us over-the-air. Viewers who still want to receive WDIO/WIRT are encouraged to subscribe to cable or direct satellite service, both of which carry WDIO/WIRT. Red Lake viewers do not yet require a digital converter box. WIRT-DT 13.1 (ABC) can be seen on analog channel 65. WIRT-DT 13.2 (RTV) can be seen on analog channel 69. If you are using an amplified UHF/VHF antenna and you live in one of the aforementioned communities and are having trouble tuning in WDIO/WIRT, try turning off the amplified portion of the antenna.
Is it true that “rabbit ears” won’t work anymore to receive WDIO/WIRT? False. If you were able to receive a clear signal from WDIO or WIRT with a “rabbit ears” antenna when we were broadcasting in analog, you should be able to receive WDIO or WIRT with a “rabbit ears” antenna now. If you are using an amplified “rabbit ears” antenna and you live in the Twin Ports or in Hibbing and are having trouble tuning in WDIO/WIRT, try turning off the amplified portion of the antenna.
