A suspect is at large after a shooting incident in Duluth's Central Hillside neighborhood Tuesday night.

"I was about 25 feet from the corner here and I heard a gunshot," witness Roger McCabe said.

Crews responded to an incident on Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue East in Duluth. Duluth Police reported initial investigation revealed three males were fighting in an alley. Authorities said the they appeared to be fighting over a bag the victim had.

The suspect then pulled out a hand gun and shot a 21-year old Duluth resident in the leg, according to Duluth Police. Authorities reported the victim was brought to a local hospital to treat his non-life threatening injuries.

Before that, witnesses said the victim was screaming outside the Whole Foods Co-Op.

"He ran up toward the handicap spot and he just kind of fell over," witness Jessica Benson said. "He was yelling obscenities the whole time saying, 'I was shot'."

"He got shot in the high part of the left leg it looked like," McCabe said.

Police say the suspect was last seen running eastbound through the Fourth Street alley with the victim's bag. Police say this was not a random act and that the suspect and victim knew each other, but witnesses were still startled.

"This is getting to be kind of a rough neighborhood," witness Scott Miller said. "I know a lot of people have said that even going to the gas station there's a lot of riffraff around here."

A shooting took place on the same street back in May 2013 near Whole Foods. Now, some neighbors expect things like this.

"It's a bit scary, but I kind of knew what I was getting into when I moved here," Benson said.

"You always kind of wonder," McCabe said. "It puts a question mark in your mind about the area and that stuff...but it's still a good town here."

Police described the suspect as a 18-19-year old black male between 5'7" and 5'8" in height. Authorities say he is thin in build and was wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and dark shoes.

Police say this remains an active investigation. They are asking anyone with information to call 911.

We'll bring you more details as they become available.
