Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec has defeated a challenge from within his own party to advance to the November election.
With all precincts reporting, Dalbec has 2,029 votes compared with Mark Liebaert's 1,712 votes in the Democratic primary. Liebaert, a former Superior police officer and current supervisor on the Douglas County Board, had said Dalbec wasn't involved enough in county meetings.
Dalbec will face Republican candidate Daniel Bethards, a narcotics investigator for the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe, in the November election. Bethards was unopposed on the Republican primary ballot and received 539 votes.
Dalbec was first elected sheriff in 2002.
