An important convenience store and take-out restaurant in the Gary - New Duluth neighborhood is now shuttered.

A sign is taped to the door of the Gary Milk House apologizing to community members and saying that the Commonwealth Avenue store has been sold.

Owner Jim Shelton, who also owns two Bridgeman's locations, bought the store 20 years ago.

Shelton said that he has run into financial hardship since the floods of 2012, forcing him to sell the Milk House. There is a possible buyer for the store lined up, but nothing has been finalized, according to Shelton.

Shelton says he plans to keep his two Bridgeman's restaurants - in the Fitger's complex and another half a block from the Milk House - open and running.
