Northland neighborhoods joined forces with thousands of communities across the country to celebrate the 31st annual National Night Out -- an event aimed at preventing crime through togetherness.

Grilling, live music, facepainting, and all kinds of family-friendly fun took over Duluth, with the idea that knowing your neighbors, and your local police officers, is key to cutting crime.

"It helps the neighborhood when you know who you're living with, and who's in your neighborhood," East Hillside Community Officer Matt Nevenen said. "And that makes communities safer."

The Hillside and downtown neighborhoods gathered across from the CHUM for the annual picnic. But there were several dozen other events going on for crime and drug prevention event. To see more pictures from other neighborhoods, and to post pictures of your own, visit the album on our Facebook page.
