Community Rallies for a Fundraiser to Fight Cancer

Northlanders rallied together on Friday at the Art Von Little League Tournament to raise money for Merissa Edwards' fight against Leukemia.

There was a sea of orange at the diamonds as they sold T-shirts in her honor. They also sold bracelets, baked goods, and had a radar throwing contest where they sold balls for a buck a piece.

Marissa is battling a rare and aggressive form of Leukemia. She was diagnosed about a month ago, yet through it all, she is still thinking of how her fight could help others.

"I don't think about it as something for me," said Merissa Edwards. "It's something to help someone else."

Merissa and her husband, Dennis, say helping can be as easy as a cheek swab through websites like Be The Match and Delete Blood Cancer.

"The more people who will take the test in Merissa's honor, the more chances you can help someone around the world to help save their life," said Dennis Edwards.

The fundraiser continues on Saturday starting at 8 a.m.

Anyone can donate by checks made out to the Coach Baggs Fund at 222 West Superior Street, Suite 810, Duluth, Minn. 55802.
