A Hibbing motorcyclist was seriously injured Wednesday evening when he struck the back of a car on Highway 37.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 65-year-old Mark Long was about 11 miles east of Hibbing when the accident happened. Another car was stopped on the highway for a deer that had been struck. Long rear-ended the vehicle just before 5:15 p.m.

Long was thrown from the motorcycle. The State Patrol says he was not wearing a helmet.

Long was transported to St. Mary's in Duluth. Hospital staff say they are still evaluating him, but as of 11 p.m. Wednesday night he was still in serious condition.
