People are cleaning up after storms across the Northland damaged trees, flipped docks and boats, and damaged some buildings early Tuesday morning.

Winds destroyed a hanger at the Eveleth-Virginia Airport and the plane inside.  Two other hangers at the airport were damaged.

Tufco and Woodline Manufacturing in Eveleth also suffered damage. Both businesses had walls blown out.

"We still have to service all our customers; we don't have time to be frustrated," Tufco's Rory Malner said.

"Got a message this morning that we had wind damage and came to see the back wall of the building blown down," Woodline's Katie Vivant said.

Across Highway 53, houses on St. Marys Court on the lake suffered major damage. A blanket of trees covered almost the entire block.

"The neighbors got a tree on top of the house," Heather Surla said. "There's a tree on the garage and then there's actually one behind our garage that fell on the neighbor's house."

Folks were busy cleaning up the mess Tuesday afternoon. Surla said it's the first day of many.

"I wouldn't be surprised if it takes the rest of the summer to clean up," Surla said.

As far as trees on the road, Saint Louis County Public Works officials said they should have it cleaned up pretty fast.

"I would say that we will have this cleaned up in the next day or so," Director Jim Foldesi said.

Elsewhere, Floodwood Police reported that the grocery store and some other buildings were damaged.

Tree damage was also reported in Biwabik, Aurora, Hoyt Lakes, rural Duluth, Togo, Littlefork, Birchdale, International Falls, Big Sandy Lake, near the end of the Gunflint Trail, and in Bayfield County, Wis.  Winds flipped over docks on Embarrass Lake near Biwabik and Big Sandy Lake in Aitkin County.

On Lake Superior, the Stewart J. Cort reported a thunderstorm wind gust of 61 miles per hour six miles north-northeast of Devils Island in Wisconsin waters at about 2:15 a.m.

The storms also injured four campers in far northern St. Louis County and knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses.

The overnight storm destroyed a hanger and the plane inside at the Eveleth-Virginia Airport.
