Nearly 3,000 homes and businesses in northeastern Minnesota remain without power after severe storms moved through the region early Tuesday morning.

At least 22,000 homes and business in northeastern Minnesota were without power immediately after the storm. As of early Wednesday evening, 1,431 Lake Country Power members and 84 Minnesota Power customers were without power.  Outages were spread across both providers' service areas.

Lake Country Power said heavy wind gusts and thunderstorms blew trees and limbs onto power lines. Broken poles and downed power lines are being reported in some locations.  Minnesota Power said wet summer weather that left the ground saturated also contributed to trees being uprooted.

John Muehlbauer, Minnesota Power line crew superintendent, said in a press release that all available line crews worked through the night and were supplemented by more personnel this morning.

Lake States Tree Service and Lake States Construction are assisting Lake County Power line crews in restoring service.

Crews work to clean up downed power lines in the Eveleth area Tuesday.
