On a Friday evening, people tend to kick back and relax. But not those involved in the production of "Les Miserables." We were there as they rehearsed this famous musical, which is set to open in Duluth mid-month.

"I think most people who love musical theater, love Les Mis," said actress Carolyne LePine.

"I've been involved with The Playhouse for years, and it's special to me to be able to be part of their 100th anniversary show," she said.

The Playhouse is calling it the largest arts collaboration ever, since they are also working with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Minnesota Ballet.

Rehearsals are taking place at UMD. That's where the massive sets are being built as well.

Meanwhile, in the basement of the Playhouse, costume designer Jean Olson and her army of volunteers are busy sewing 200 costume changes.

"It is probably our biggest challenge yet. We're taking ideas from movies, buying items from thrift stores, and trying new techniques to distress clothing, like using sandpaper," she explained.

Each sewer comes with certain talents, and Olson finds the right fit for them. She's done plenty of research on the costumes as well.

You have your chance to see the show in mid-July. The dates are July 16-July 19th, and the showtime is 7:30pm each night.

You can get tickets at the DECC Box Office, or online, at http://www.ticketmaster.com
