Aitkin, Minn. - They are the talk of the town in Aitkin as the Gobbler baseball team will play in the State Tournament for the first time in their history.

Last week, Aitkin (22-4) defeated Cloquet at Wade Stadium in Duluth to win the Section 7AA Title. Now, they will battle once-beaten Fairmont (23-1) in the State AA Quarterfinals. For the Gobblers, success has come from their unity and from the mound.

"Our biggest strength is that no one guy on our team is going to be the hero every night. Each guy picks each other up and their commitment to each other has really shined and every night, somebody else has been a hero and it has been fun, but I would say that ultimately, the depth of our pitching is what got us to this point," said Head Coach Jeremy Janzen in a telephone interview.

Aitkin and Fairmont are scheduled to play on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud. It will be the 10th apperance at State for the Cardinals.
