A special tradition for graduating seniors at a small northern Wisconsin school keeps the community close at heart.

The graduating class from South Shore High School in Port Wing - all ten of them (plus one absent student) - received handmade quilts at an award ceremony on Monday night.

Each one is made by a member of the Community Caring Club, in hopes they'll bring a little bit of Port Wing with them on their next life adventure.

"It's so meaningful to us because they send us thank you cards and they tell us it was their grandma's favorite color and it reminds them of their grandma, and it reminds them of home," Jill Corr, the founder of the Community Caring Club said. "I think it's hard to transition into a big college from a little school, so it's kind of comforting for them to know they have a quilt from home."

Corr says each quilt is personally made, but they don't have a 'made by' tag on them.

The quilts are from the whole community, not just an individual, according to Corr.
