WITC Holds Spring Commencement Ceremony

Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College held its Spring Commencement Ceremony on Friday night.

The ceremony took place at the Superior Middle School gymnasium, with a reception following in the auditorium.

According to the college, 751 students from the Superior, Ashland, Rice Lake and New Richmond campuses applied to graduate this term.

    A Butternut man has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old child. According to the criminal complaint, the man brought the child to the hospital in full respiratory arrest, and the child died the next day. A forensic exam revealed evidence of child abuse.

    Police say they arrested a 23-year-old Duluth man suspected of robbing another man at knife point on Monday. Police say the suspect has four other convictions in Minnesota from 2011 and 2012. No one was injured, and the suspect is being held at the St. Louis County Jail.

  • Ebola Worker with Northland Ties Killed in Guinea

    A pastor and clinic administrator with ties in Duluth was killed in Guinea last week. Moses Mamy was part of an Ebola awareness team traveling from village to village. When they reached Womey last Tuesday, residents attacked and killed Mamy and seven others. Mamy's friends say he will be remembered for "his generous heart."

  • Bayfield Apple Festival Looking for Volunteers

    This year's festival starts Friday, Oct. 3 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 5. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help out throughout the weekend.
