Spring brings prom season and graduation parties. School and emergency officials are working together to remind students to be safe on nights that should hold many happy memories. The lessons about drinking a driving are important ones.

Students at East Central High School along with the Sandstone fire department took it one step further. They participated in a dramatic mock crash demonstration on Thursday, May 15. Just two days before their school prom.  The demonstration was to show the deadly consequences of driving after drinking.

Students participated as victims and first responders. Essentia Health Sandstone dispatched an ambulance and North Memorial Hospital lent their helicopter and flight medics for the demonstration.  Methven Funeral Home also participated in the event.

One drunk driver was arrested by Pine County Deputy Leah Schmidt, the schools resource officer.

The message... for kids to be smart and stay safe.
