On the corner of Broadway and Hammond in Superior, sits the old city hall. It's a building built more than 100 years ago. Today, it's full of new businesses, the newest is the Spirit Room.
"We're putting on the finishing touches... the tables are coming in and the bar top is coming in," said manager Lindsey Graskey.
They're still a month out from setting the tables and serving up dishes, but when they do, they'll be serving up all kinds of tapas.
"They're small mini-masterpieces, instead of the traditional dinner...you come in, you order these small plates of food, and it's developed to have conversation with people," she explained.
It allows diners to mix and match. The menu is still in the works, but chef Curtis LaBreche says it will be tasty and always changing.
"We are doing some things with ahi, we have seared scallops, we're going to do a number of other things, like Asian skewers," he explained.
LaBreche said they will be keeping their menu and their brew local.
As for the decor? It's all about replicating the old building around the restaurant. Vintage chandeliers hang, the windows are oversized, and parts of the old elevator line the wall.
Graskey said it's unique design and food is exactly what Superior needs.
"I think people want to come to a restaurant like this and call it their own," she said.
Last October, Eyewitness News was inside the Spirit Room at the very beginning while filming a story about spooky happenings in the old building. But Graskey says, while the name may be fitting, that's not the spirit they're talking about.
"There are many stories that this place could possibly be haunted, not to scare anyone or anything...but it actually stems from the idea of spirit as in liquor," she explained.
Diners will have the chance to judge the name and food for themselves when the Spirit Room opens in mid-June. They plan to be open Monday-Friday 4-11 p.m., and Saturday 11 a.m.- 6 p.m.
