Richard Wascher is one of many veterans looking for work.
"I served from 1989 to 2011," Wascher said. "I'm looking for operations or maintenance management positions."
Wascher had a good opportunity to shake some hands during the Northland Job Fair at the DECC Wednesday. The first hour was open to veterans, students and interns only.
"It gives people who are unfamiliar with a career fair a little better of a chance before the crowds come in," college student Joseph Billman said.
The fair expected to see about 1,000 people throughout the day. There were 126 booths with businesses from all over the Northland. From the North Shore to the Iron Range, many employers were looking for talent.
"To be able to come to this and shake the hand of the hiring manager is just a huge foot in the door," DEED's Rhonda Rutford said.
Duluth's much-anticipated Chipotle was also at the fair. They're hiring and will open June 26.
Rachel Moe was another job seeker at the job fair. She's been searching for about six months.
"I'm hoping to find something," Moe said. "I look at this as more of a personal approach."
Rutford said the chances of finding work at the fair are good.
"We survey the employers after this and they all say that they talked to people they would like to interview and people are getting hired," Rutford said.
The is the fifth year for the Northland Job Fair. The Minnesota Workforce Center is always open to help people looking for work.
