Downtown Duluth's newest storefront brings a little extra sparkle to Superior Street.

"We want to glam up all the ladies and bring a bold look to Duluth," said BB Makeup manager and makeup artist, Haley Hedstrom.

It's a cosmetic bar. If you haven't heard of such a thing, you're not alone. As a business entirely dedicated to eye shadows, lipsticks, and blushes, it's an idea new to the Northland. They do makeovers, makeup lessons, and makeup parties, too.

BB opened their sparkly pink doors at 101 E. Superior St. in February. There are two locations in the Twin Cities area and when the owners were looking to expand, Hedstrom said Duluth immediately came to mind.

"The city is beautiful. Duluth is just the prefect setting for a new store to open, and it's growing," she explained.

The fact that Duluth is a college town was also attractive to the business. Audrey Cope will graduate from UMD in May, and she plans to get her makeup done for the ceremony.

"I'm not very good at applying makeup myself, so it will be nice having someone else do it," said Cope.

BB is gearing up for prom and wedding season and Hedstrom said business has been good so far.

So, what's the hottest trend? A look called the "smokey eye."

Hedstrom said it's all about highlighting a woman's natural beauty, but it's not all about looks.

"It's really interesting how makeup can enhance someone's confidence," she said.
