19-Year-Old Accused of Threatening Grand Rapids HS Students

A 19-year-old Hibbing man faces four felony charges after allegedly threatening two Grand Rapids High School students with a handgun in a road rage incident Monday.

Seth Matthew James Nelson is charged with second-degree assault, making terroristic threats, being in possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The incident happened at about 12:45 p.m. Monday.  The students say they had a minor altercation with Nelson in the parking lot.  Nelson allegedly followed them out of the parking lot, brandished a handgun at an intersection, and threatened to shoot the students.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Officers located a suspect vehicle near the school and allegedly found a .22 caliber handgun inside.  Nelson appeared in court Tuesday and a judge set bail at $100,000 without conditions or $50,000 if he keeps court appearances, keeps in contact with his attorney, doesn't use alcohol or drugs, doesn't have firearms, and doesn't have contact with the victims.
