If you listened closely, you could hear spring coming Monday. Kids were on the playground and cars splashed through puddles.

"I'm so happy," Ray LaPlante said.

A cure for your winter blues; the Northland more than 50 degrees above zero.

"Everyone actually looks happy," Devon Tonak said. "They have smiles on their faces today."

At the Super One on Superior Street, Sam Berndt chose to ride his moped instead of his car.

"It's finally nice enough to drive it around," Berndt said.

On the big lake, no tent was needed for many fishermen.

"The weather is perfect you can't ask for much more," Leroy Schnorr said.

Schnorr and LaPlante said ice fishing has been rough this year.

"I refuse to go out in that cold stuff," LaPlante said.

"It's been too cold and too snowy," Schnorr said. "Thank God we have some good ice on Lake Superior or I wouldn't be out now."

On top of the hill in Duluth, students at UMD were wearing shorts. We found one student in a tank top, shorts and barefoot.

"It's kind of cold; it beats 30 below," Brandon Johnson said. "It feels kind of good to just let your feet be wet."

Fellow student Tonak said he likes the idea of being barefoot.

"I think that sounds great," Tonak said.

While it felt nice outdoors Monday, we didn't break records. In 1990, we hit 54 degrees.
