College tuition can be a huge obstacle for prospective students, but kids in Superior got a chance to lower it on Sunday.

College Goal Wisconsin is part of a nationwide effort to help prospective college students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). On Sunday, students were welcomed to Superior Senior High School to get help with their applications from experts.

Experts from the University of Wisconsin Superior were there to help. Financial Aid Director Donna Dahlvang said their decision to hold the event at the high school instead of the college was strategic.

"Students and families, especially first-time filers and first-generation college students, are able to go and fill out their FAFSA in a place that feels familiar to them," she said. "And sometimes a college campus, if they haven't done a tour yet or they're not familiar with a college campus, can be a little bit scary."

Dahlvang said they had about 30 families come through on Sunday. It only took about an hour to get each application submitted.
