Duluth Youth Head to State Championship in Lego Robotics

A team of six young Duluthians is using a simulated blizzard and Legos to learn new tech skills. The Masters of Disasters 2.0 team practiced on Saturday for the Lego robotics state championship next weekend.

The team uses a lot of science and math to get miniature Lego citizens to safety by programming a robot. The Masters of Disasters 2.0 won first place in a regional competition qualifying them for the state championship.

Their coach, Ward Lane, said the experience really helps the students grow.

“They've learned programming. They've learned teamwork. They let their imaginations go wild and used a lot of math so it really fits into the STEM par of curriculum,” Lane said.

First place at state would get them a trip to Toronto, but some of the students want to come in second in order to win a trip to Legoland in California.
