10 Candidates File to Replace Patrick Boyle on Duluth City Council

Time to apply for the vacant Duluth City Council seat ran out Friday afternoon.

Filing closed at 4:30 p.m. According to the city's website there are ten candidates:

  • Dianne Desotelle
  • Kathleen Heltzer
  • Todd Larson
  • Michael Laughlin
  • Eric Meyer
  • Angie Miller
  • Jesse Peterson
  • Michelle Peterson
  • Robert Pyle
  • Joel Sipress

The council will appoint a candidate to fill the Second District seat held by Patrick Boyle until he was elected to the St. Louis County Board.

Boyle is replacing Miller on the board where she filled in after her husband, Commissioner Steve O'Neil, served until he passed away from a fight with cancer.

The City of Duluth has nine councilors. Five council districts elect their own councilors, and four at large councilors represent the entire city.

    Regulating the sale and use of electronic cigarettes is the goal of new rules proposed by the Food and Drug Administration Thursday. If approved, e-cigarette sales would be banned to people under age 18, a warning label would be placed on the devices, and manufacturers would be required to tell the FDA what's in their products.

    Eating at one of a half-dozen Duluth restaurants today can help Minnesotans living with HIV/AIDS.  The "Dining Out for Life" event raises money for the Aliveness Project.

  • Monument to Honor Former POWs and David Wheat

    There's an effort underway to build a monument to honor all POWs from the Northland, including Commander David Wheat, of Duluth.
