Have Heating Problems, Questions? Minn., Wis. Hotlines Can Help

Created: 01/30/2014 12:48 PM WDIO.com

If you're having trouble paying to heat your home, the State of Minnesota may be able to help.

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton's office said that the State Emergency Operations Center has set up a public hotline for people with propane issues or questions. The hotline will be up and running weekdays from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Residents with questions about the current propane shortage, or are in danger of running out of heating fuel, can call 661-297-1304 in the metro area. People living in greater Minnesota can call 1-800-657-3504.

The hotline is staffed with experts from the Minnesota Department of Commerce who can provide information about energy assistance programs, and connect you with resources in your home county.

Dayton declared a State of Peacetime Emergency in Minnesota on Monday in response to the persistent cold weather and the increased risk that households may run out of heating fuel - a situation that would pose an immediate threat to public safety.

A separate hotline has been established for Wisconsin.  It's 1-866-HEAT-WIS.
