Age, Fluctuating Temperatures Take Toll on Duluth Water Mains

A water main break in Duluth's Lakeside-Lester Park neighborhood cut off water access Monday.

Eyewitness News found repair crews digging up the road near 47th Avenue East and Superior Street around 2 p.m. The city said the water main break impacted about two blocks. Sammy's Pizza, a nearby business, said they were without water.

The city said repairs should be finished by Monday night.

City crews fixed two water main breaks in Duluth's Central Hillside last week. They said breaks are caused by a combination of aging infrastructure and fluctuating temperatures.
