Duluth Police Issue Phone Scam Warning

Created: 01/22/2014 6:25 PM WDIO.com

The Duluth Police Department is issuing a warning after a number of reports of a company asking for donations over the phone.

The department said a Florida company is making phone calls and asking for monetary donations to the "Proceed with Caution" program. They said it is supposed to give money to the families of police officers involved in fatal traffic accidents. The number showing up on the caller ID is from area code 727.

According to the department, the company does not represent them. They are asking you to be cautious, and not to donate money or give personal information to any organization with which you are not familiar.

Through investigation, authorities said they have not been able to verify that the program or company exists.
