Man Critically Injured in Meadowlands Fire Upgraded to Fair Condition

The man critically injured in a Meadowlands house fire last week has been upgraded to fair condition.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the home on the 7700 block of Central Avenue at on Thursday at 12:50 a.m. John Stossel, 75, and his wife, Karen Gosch, 72, were evacuated from the home with help from the Meadowlands Fire Department before it was destroyed by the blaze.

The couple was transported to a Duluth hospital where Gosch was pronounced dead, and Stossel was determined to be in critical condition.

Authorities said that the fire appeared to have started near the kitchen.
