Normanna Township celebrated the renovation of its old town hall on Saturday.

Construction started in early September, and Dennis Gunsolus, a supervisor for Normanna, said at least half of the work was done by volunteers. The meeting hall used to be up a flight of stairs. Gunsolus said the new room has more than double the capacity, and is more accessible for all.

"There's a chance again to have a meeting space where the sense of community can be developed more," he said. "It's much easier for people to come to vote. We can wheel somebody in if they have to now. There's none of that intimidation by stairway anymore. So it brings people together and allows handicap access."

Gunsolus said the new town hall used to be the old fire hall.
