More than 600 people gathered in Duluth on Saturday to support a young woman gearing up for her third heart transplant.

Twenty-one-year-old Mara Krysiak has an inherited heart condition that has plagued three generations of her family. Last November she received an artificial heart, her second transplant. This one will only prepare her for another transplant.

A benefit was held for Krysiak on Saturday at the Kom-on-Inn in Duluth. The goal was to raise money for her living expenses.

"This turnout has been amazing, amazing," said family friend Stephanie Evans. "Way more than we expected. We were hoping for about 600 people and we're pretty sure we beat that."

Krysiak's mother, Heather, also said she was surprised at the numbers.

"It's amazing," she said. "It's unbelievable. I knew there would be a few people. I didn't imagine at all that this many people would be here."

Anyone interested in donating to Mara can give online or at the Kom-on-Inn. Heather Krysiak said there is also an account set up at SCCU under "Team Mara."
